Reseña del libro "lonely children and adolescents (en Inglés)"
this book examines in-depth the loneliness experienced by children as related to their individual characteristics and contextual conditions at home and at school. in line with the current positive psychology trends, the book discusses social/emotional resilience and the therapeutic implications of the hope theory and presents new empowering strategies for coping with childhood loneliness, including preventive and intervention approaches. short descriptions and case reports illustrate personal experiences, emotional expressions, and coping. in this volume, loneliness conceptualization as an outcome of a mismatch between children?s needs and motivation for connectedness and their perceived social realities is presented. the book examines primary genetic, neuropsychological, and developmental factors that may predispose children to loneliness and personal difficulties. in addition, secondary (but not less important) self-related or situational variables are introduced, explaining how they may maintain or reinforce the extent to which children fail to develop meaningful relations, to bridge social or interpersonal space, and to cope with being alienated and feeling different in their social environments (e.g., family and school). personal characteristics may not only predispose children to loneliness but also may render it more difficult for them to cope with the alienation. current cultural trends that highlight the significance of social connections and protective- and risk-related factors to a wide network of friends challenge classic conceptualizations of close relations, friendship, and privacy. this volume meets the unanswered need for a comprehensive updated research-based conceptualization on a significant developmental risk, providing a new orientation and introducing the impact of technological developments.
