Este libro presenta una investigación histórica, arquitectónica y gráfica de las transformaciones del edificio del Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Bogotá en el siglo XX. Fueron estas transformaciones las que afectaron más significativamente el Colegio y sus edificaciones aledañas, modificando lo que se había conservado hasta el siglo XIX y que lo situaban en el contexto arquitectónico que hoy conocemos. El concepto de transformación implica un sustrato previo arquitectónico, urbano e histórico, y este libro justamente intenta evidenciar ese contexto de las obras descritas. Para lograrlo, se retrocede en el tiempo hasta el siglo XVI en la ciudad de Santafé de Bogotá con convenientes referencias a las concepciones que existían en la España del momento, en cuanto a poblar, fundar y construir ciudades en el Nuevo Mundo. Como hitos principales se reseñan la construcción del Claustro Republicano en 1900, el monumento al fundador, la gran transformación resultante del sismo de 1917, el tratamiento neocolonial de los años cincuenta y la llegada de la arquitectura moderna con las torres nuevas de 1970. Más de 100 ilustraciones hacen amigable la comprensión y visualización de esta extensa investigación, y 29 planimetrías plasman dichas transformaciones en lenguaje arquitectónico. AbstractThis work presents a historical, architectural, and graphic investigation of the transformations of the building of the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Bogotá in the twentieth century. It was these transformations that most significantly affected the university and its surrounding buildings, modified what had been preserved until the nineteenth century, and placed it in the architectural context we know today. The concept of transformation implies the existence of a previous architectural, urban, and historical substratum, and the purpose of this book is precisely to evidence the context of the described alterations. To the effect, the study moves back in time to the sixteenth century in the city of Santafé de Bogotá with relevant information on the concepts that existed in Spain at the time, in terms of how to found, build, and populate cities in the New World. As major milestones, the study highlights the construction of the Republican Cloister in 1900, the monument to the founder, the great transformation resulting from the 1917 earthquake, the neocolonial movement in the 1950s, and the arrival of modern architecture with the new towers in 1970. More than 100 illustrations facilitate the comprehension and visualization of this extensive research, and 29 planimetric drawings help to translate these transformations into architectural language.
