There are over 800,000 registered sex offenders who have been released back into society and the number continues to grow. Most of them are required register for 15 years, 20 years, or for life and the trend is to push for life registration on an increasingly large percentage of them. After returning to society they do move on to build social lives for themselves, marry and have children, so there are now hundreds of thousands of dependent children who have a parent on the sex offender registry. The laws against registered sex offenders are many and are severe, for no other criminal type has been so vilified, not even mass murderers are as vilified.
